North Battleford residents face weapons charges after traffic stop

Four North Battleford residents are facing numerous weapons charges after a proactive traffic stop by RCMP earlier this week.

Battlefords RCMP officers pulled over a vehicle on 100 St. in North Battleford at about 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7.

Investigators quickly determined that multiple occupants inside the vehicle were breaching court-ordered conditions, leading to the arrest of three men and one woman at the scene. Police said the woman initially resisted arrest but was safely taken into custody.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a sawed-off firearm, bear spray, a knife, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Jayaleo Pete, 30, Christopher Fiddler, 40, Kiandra Jackson, 25 and Dale Starchief, 25, all from North Battleford, have each been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, unsafe storage of firearms, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon.

Fiddler faces additional charges, including knowing possession of a firearm is unauthorized, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and two counts of weapons possession contrary to an order. He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from the Edmonton Police Service.

Jackson is also facing individual counts of knowing possession of a firearm is unauthorized, resisting a peace officer, and weapons possession contrary to an order.

All four of the accused made their first appearances in North Battleford Provincial Court on Wednesday, July 8.
