The City of Lloydminster is seeking public input on proposed updates to its Traffic Bylaw, including a potential drop in default residential speed limits from 50 km/h to 40 km/h.

Public consultation opened Tuesday and runs through Sept. 14. Residents are invited to review the proposals and complete an online survey at YourVoiceLloyd.ca/TrafficBylaw.

The proposed speed reduction aims to improve neighbourhood safety by lowering the likelihood and severity of collisions, though major arterial and collector roads would remain at 50 km/h.

Beyond speed limits, the city is considering key adjustments to several other road regulations:

  • Parking Rules: Standardizing parking regulations within cul-de-sacs, clarifying rules for recreational vehicles, and updating seasonal restrictions to accommodate street sweeping and snow removal.
  • E-Mobility Devices: Introducing clear framework rules for operating e-bikes and e-scooters on municipal property and roadways.
  • Traffic Noise: Adjusting parameters and increasing penalties for excessive or unnecessary vehicle noise to protect neighbourhood livability.

Paper surveys are available at City Hall and the Operations Centre. City representatives will also answer questions in person at the Wheels at Work event at Bud Miller All Seasons Park on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Feedback gathered during the consultation period will be compiled into a report for city council before any bylaw amendments are formally considered.
