A weekly lottery tradition between three retired colleagues has paid off to the tune of $250,004.

Terry Nelson of Battleford, alongside Saskatoon residents Leslie Deptuch and Linda Benko, matched all seven digits on their EXTRA ticket during the July 2 Sask Lotteries DAILY GRAND draw.
The trio originally started buying lottery tickets while working together, a joint routine they chose to maintain into retirement.
“We retired and just kept the tradition going, now we buy once a week,” Nelson said.
Nelson discovered the winning ticket while checking the group’s entries and quickly sent a message to their shared group chat.
Deptuch admitted she initially missed the text message alert until Benko prompted her to check her phone, while Benko reacted with lighthearted skepticism.
“I asked if it was real,” Benko said. “I said I’d believe it when I see it.”
With the win confirmed, all three winners have distinct plans for their respective shares of the prize:
- Terry Nelson: Plans to put part of her winnings toward home repairs and save the remainder as a nest egg.
- Linda Benko: Intends to finish building her fence and share some of the funds with her grandchildren.
- Leslie Deptuch: Plans to take her time before deciding how to use her share.
The group purchased the winning ticket at the 29 Street Market, located at 221 29 St. in Battleford. The winning EXTRA numbers for the July 2 draw were 3622056.
