Demolition work at the Centennial Civic Centre has been temporarily halted following the discovery of materials requiring specialized removal.

Crews began tearing down the building on Wednesday, Sept. 17, but work was paused after workers identified the hazardous substances during the operation.
According to the City of Lloydminster, abatement teams returned to the site on Friday, Sept. 18, to safely clear and contain the materials. City officials confirmed the site remains secure and there is no risk to the public.
Demolition is scheduled to resume once abatement is complete, though municipal officials noted further temporary pauses may occur if additional hazardous materials are uncovered as work progresses.
