Lloydminster city council has appointed WLS LLP Chartered Professional Accountants as Lloydminster’s external financial auditor for the 2026, 2027, and 2028 financial years, with an option to extend the contract through 2030.

The decision follows the completion of the city’s previous audit agreement at the end of the 2025 fiscal year. Under Section 224(1) of The Lloydminster Charter, the city is required to retain an external auditor to inspect its annual financial records.
The city issued a Request for Proposals on Aug. 5, 2026, which closed Aug. 31 after receiving two submissions. Administration selected WLS LLP after evaluating candidates on criteria including proposed audit approach, team qualifications, firm references, and overall cost.
In addition to auditing the city’s annual financial statements, WLS LLP will audit the Lloydminster Public Library. The library recently transitioned from a regional entity to an independent municipal library under Saskatchewan’s Public Libraries Act, requiring its financial audit to align directly with the city’s process.
Under Section 222 of The Lloydminster Charter, audited financial statements must be submitted to provincial ministers and released to the public by May 1 following each reporting period.
City administration has been authorized to execute the contract documents, while future operating budgets will be updated to reflect the new agreement.
