The grills were firing and the rain held off for the City of Lloydminster’s annual pancake breakfast to kick off the Lloyd Ex Fair, which ran July 9-12.
The breakfast is held every year from 7 to 10 a.m. behind city hall as a way for mayor and council to engage with the public.

“It’s just a great opportunity to visit with council members, city staff and their neighbours,” said Lloydminster Mayor Gerald Aalbers, noting it’s a nice way of bringing the community together.
The breakfast is held in conjunction with the Lloyd Ex Fair, .
“It gets people going in the morning and sends them off back to the fair. For guests, we get a chance to welcome them in our community,” said Aalbers, adding the breakfast featured more than just food.
“We’ve got some city services going on,” he said. “We’re showing off the community trailers and the block party trailer. We’ve also got budget engagement.”
While Aalbers didn’t spill the beans to the secret of a good pancake, opting to greet the growing crowd of hungry people, he said one of the grillers may have some insight.
“Love and dedicated public service,” said one of the grillers who referred to himself as the head chef.
