Cenovus Energy officials stated the well still isn’t sealed at its Rush Lake Thermal facility on July 10, two months after original reports of a major leak.

During a 17-minute press conference with local media outlets before an open house event, the company provided updates on the leak, while also leaving unanswered questions.

Some highlights include:
– 15 out of 16 wells have been “killed” on the site.
– There is no timeline as to when the remaining well will be killed.
– The company has not been able to bring the last well under control.
– Dozens of sensors on site report all vapours are at safe levels.
– Officials believe they found the leak the same day it occurred.
– They don’t know the depth of the current fracture in the well casing but think it’s a fracture in the well casing.
