Last Thursday evening, the Canadian flag flown at Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 was lowered to half-mast following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
“We put the flag at half-mast out of respect to the Queen passing today, as well as the people we lost in the recent events in Saskatchewan. We also lost a veteran in the recent events in Saskatchewan,” said 1st vice president Vince Scott.
“The flag will remain at half-mast until sunset on the day of the Queen’s funeral,” he said.
“This is the local Legion’s way of showing support for the Queen as well as the families that lost loved ones during the tragic events in Saskatchewan.”
The Queen’s funeral will be taking place on Sept. 19. To honour the day, members of the Lloydminster Legion will gather at the Lloydminster Cenotaph Monday for a ceremony at 10:45 a.m. Guests are asked to arrive by 10:30 a.m.
“Mayor Gerald Aalbers will be saying a few words at the ceremony and we’ll have poppy boxes as well as wreaths to be laid,” said Scott.
