Lloyd Lanes has been in town for a few years and is now taking the opportunity to encourage kids bowling as a way to get youth engaged in the sport this summer.
“Bowling is such a wonderful sport for all ages, anyone can do it,” said Lloyd Lanes’ owner Jody MacDonald. “In our kids leagues, the kids get a lot of awards for points over own average, so you’re always trying to beat your personal best. We have tournaments for POA (points over average) so not just the top bowlers have opportunities to win medals.”
Getting kids involved starts with camps like the one coming up this Thursday.
“Our kids camp are a fun few hours where they will learn pin value and how the scoring works, we often have some of our youth league bowlers helping the kids by explaining their techniques that help them get the strikes and spares,” said MacDonald. “We break for lunch and head into a glow bowl party atmosphere to finish off the camp.”
The cost for that camp is $25 and you can sign up here.
Something else to consider if you are interested this summer is the ability for kids to bowl two free games at Lloyd Lanes.
MacDonald told the Source kids have been able to access these daily games since late April and will continue to be able to do so through the end of August. Although the shoe fees still apply, it’s another way to promote the sport among youth and give them something to do. She has an end goal of promoting the sport this way.
“Our ultimate goal with the camps and the KBF program is to introduce kids to the sport in hopes they will want to join a league. We offer two youth leagues September thru April on Tuesdays or Saturdays.”
Lloyd Lanes will also be offering tot leagues, special Olympics, 55+ afternoon league, adult night 30-week leagues, beer leagues and Dolls with balls (ladies night league) again this fall. You can find more information and registration fees on their website.
