The City of Lloydminster has appointed a new city clerk following the Oct. 7 council meeting.
The position was previously left vacant after Doug Rodwell, the city clerk, tendered his retirement notice on Mar. 15.
Since Rodwell’s departure, Marilyn Lavoie has filled the position as interim city clerk.
Coun. Lorelee Marin spoke highly of Lavoie’s ability to fill the shoes left by the previous city clerk.
“In many conversations I had with the previous city clerk, he talked a lot about his team, and Marilyn was part of that, and the readiness she had to fill this role,” she said. “I just want to thank you for your many years of service, for your ability to step into some big shoes he left behind.”
Marin was not the only one to speak on the subject as Mayor Gerald Aalbers spoke on the importance of the work Lavoie does.
“The city clerk’s position is a very important position. In many cases, it deals with the legal side of the city’s operations, contracts and various pieces, as well as the legislative portion that we’re seeing today in every council meeting,” he said.
“Appreciate Marilyn’s work with that, we have total confidence in your ability to continue to ensure the legislative portion of our city meetings and exceeds the requirements in the charter.”
Council unanimously voted in favour of appointing Lavoie as the new city clerk. Following the vote, Aalbers congratulated Lavoie on her new appointment.
