Lloydminster RCMP is investigating a robbery they believe was targeted.
At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 2, RCMP was observed conducting a high-risk takedown on the city’s west end. It was in response to a robbery in the area of 80 Ave.
The Meridian Source confirmed with officials this video is from the scene of the takedown. It shows multiple units surrounding a vehicle in the 7500 block of 44 St.
Police say a seller was trying to sell personal property when the buyer used a substance against them, stole the item, and fled. The victim received medical care and was not injured.
RCMP searched for the suspect’s vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop on a similar car. Officers have confirmed the vehicle was not involved.
“There is no perceived risk to the community,” police said. “This is believed to be a targeted situation.”
RCMP reminds the public to stay cautious when selling items online.
“Exchanging items in public spaces with witnesses is ideal,” officers said. “Police detachment parking lots are often used for buy-and-sell exchanges, especially for valuables or dangerous items.”
Police say meeting in a safe location does not guarantee protection but can reduce the risk of theft or injury.
The investigation is ongoing, and the RCMP requests the public’s help. Anyone with information can contact Lloydminster RCMP at 780-808-8300 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
