From poetry reading to the singing of My Way, the 12 artists showed off on stage, though it was not a contest.

“There was no winner—it wasn’t a competition, but a showcase of student talent,” said LCHS teacher Dwayne Jeffery.

The talent show committee picked who would perform.

“We had over 20 acts try out,” said Jeffery. “Twelve were selected to perform.”

Ahead of the event, organizers worked to spread news it was coming.

“We used morning announcements, posters around the school, social media, and good old-fashioned word of mouth,” said Jeffery. “Our leadership students also encouraged classmates directly.”

Jason Neville, director of education for LPSD, said these events help schools meet their goals.

“A talent show is a wonderful example of how schools create space for every student to pursue their passion and express themselves in unique and meaningful ways,” said Neville. “It celebrates creativity, builds confidence, and fosters a sense of belonging.”

Jeffery credits the students for inspiring the event. He explained it came from finding ways to connect the student community.

“The students! As we attempt to fulfill a philosophy about Connecting The Dots where we reach every student with an activity,” he said.

“We wanted to give them a fun, positive space to share their talents and cheer each other on … It’s all about building confidence and community.”

Planning the event was not easy.

“Timing, scheduling and perfecting the sound system were the trickiest parts,” said Jeffery. “It took 8 hours to set up, do all the sound checks, and do a test run. Students stepped up and made it all come together with the end goal of showcasing the diverse talent in our school.”

Even after the final bell, the gym remained full for the rest of the performances.

“I’m so proud of Baron Nation,” said Jeffery. “From the Leadership group to the musicians, to the teachers who helped and to the 1200 plus students who stayed past the bell to enjoy an hour of amazing talent.”

The entertainment was only part of the reason for the event. It was a chance to celebrate being a baron and included a banner presentation.

“It was an awesome pep rally filled with laughter, talent, and school spirit,” said Jeffery. “We hope to make it an LCHS Barons tradition and continue giving students the chance to shine and showcase their talents year after year.”
