UPDATE – 1:05 p.m. – Kitscoty Fire Department rushed north of the village just before 10:30 a.m. April 21, after reports of a fast-moving grass fire.
The fire was spreading quickly toward homes and Highway 897, pushed by strong winds and dry, tall grass in the area.
Crews arriving first saw a large fire growing fast and called for backup from Marwayne Fire and County 9-1 (Chief Kirk Hughes).
A Voyent Alert was sent to alert people nearby, including those living on acreages close to the fire’s path.
Firefighters shuttled water with tankers and used pumpers to fight the blaze. It was finally putting it out shortly before noon.
The fire is under investigation, but officials say there is no reason to believe it was started on purpose.
