Darrell Patan, the Canadian Future Party (CFP) candidate for Battlefords–Lloydminster–Meadow Lake, says Lloydminster needs bold ideas and real change.
He says past governments ignored key problems. He wants to fix them.
“We need to focus. Major programs must be paused until Canada’s independence is assured,” said Patan in response to questions from the Meridian Source.
Patan supports a big plan to better connect the country, which includes a coast-to-coast utility corridor carrying pipelines, power, and fibre optic lines. The corridor could also include roads or railways.
“It will allow industry to build infrastructure,” he said.
That includes better transport for grain, minerals, and people.
Health care
Patan also wants to fix Canada’s strained health-care system. He supports a national license for doctors and nurses, which would help rural communities like Lloydminster.
“This will simplify mobility and reduce bureaucracy,” explained Patan.
Patan plans to increase the number of spots for foreign-trained professionals and supports a special visa for health-care workers who already meet Canadian standards.
He also says private clinics should be able to rent hospital space for surgeries after hours.
“This will reduce waiting lists, increase revenues for hospitals and redirect health dollars … back to Canada,” noted Patan.
Interprovincial barriers and housing
When it comes to interprovincial health care issues, Patan’s party promises to remove barriers. He believes removing these barriers could unlock two per cent of Canada’s GDP.
“We will incentivize the removal of these barriers,” he said. “Canadian businesses can freely trade and move across the country.”
Housing is another top issue in Lloydminster and Patan supports a strong federal role. The party’s plan includes turning empty federal buildings into rental homes.
“We will launch a federally-funded-land-acquisition program for affordable housing,” he said.
Patan says climate-resilient, low-cost homes must be part of the solution.
Indigenous relations, crime and youth
For Indigenous peoples near Lloydminster, Patan wants a new start and backs a 10-year plan to settle all land and treaty claims. After that, the Indian Act would be replaced with new agreements.
“The CFP recognizes Indigenous peoples have endured generations of discrimination,” said Patan. “These new agreements (will be) rooted in equality, consent and mutual respect.”
Crime
Patan says Canada must fix bail laws and believes the leniency on bail is jeopardizing Canadians. However, his party will work to stop this.
To help youth stay in Lloydminster, Patan wants training programs in trades and emergency work. His plan includes two new national programs.
The Civil Security Corps would respond to disasters and hire local medics and emergency workers while training young people to build projects across Canada.
“These hands-on efforts equip young Canadians with the tools to contribute meaningfully,” explained Patan.
His message to Lloydminster regarding the party is clear: Local voices matter.
He hopes to build a country that listens to its citizens and is proactive in its approach to government and issues.
