The company says crews are injecting water into the well to manage the incident. Berms are also in place to keep the released material contained.

Cenovus stated the incident “caused more odour, extra noise and a visible plume of water vapour.”

Cenovus says it’s watching air quality in the area to keep people safe.

The company is also giving regular updates to nearby residents.

“Our top priority is safety and protecting the environment,” said Cenovus Media Relations in a statement Monday morning.

Meanwhile, work at the site continues as crews respond to the release.

Cenovus has not said what caused the release or how long cleanup will take.

  1. The second video is difficult to read as well without any description of its location. It is very misleading and deceptive reporting!

  2. I don’t understand what any of this means and what the environmental impact is. Where are the facts? What does this company even do?

  3. I worked on these wells 4 years ago and there was H2S leaking from the ground while we pumped water down to kill the wells. This has been a problem for years and they covered it up.

    1. These wells also usually sit at 15 – 20% H2S which would cause the odor. I can’t even imagine the Benzene levels that are being released
