Engines rumbled and chrome gleamed at the Barons’ truck show, hosted at Lloydminster Comprehensive High School on June 4.

Students showed off their rides at the annual car and truck show, held in the teacher’s parking lot. Around 20 students brought vehicles to show, while hundreds came out to watch.

“This is the best event of the year … it’s unique, it’s different,” said staff advisor Victoria Oldershaw. “All the kids come out and enjoy and see cool stuff. It’s just fun.”

The event is popular because it includes everyone.

“This is an event that gets kids that we would never see getting involved in things,” she said. “Not all these cars are super expensive fancy cars … anybody can bring a vehicle.”

Everyone was able to enjoy a hotdog lunch while students displayed lifted trucks, older vehicles, motorbikes and some rough-and-tough vehicles. Others came from dealerships, including electric vehicles.

“It’s actually interesting. We have electric cars coming from the dealerships; they’re really cool,” she said.

The event has run for over 10 years and it’s a team effort when it comes to judging time. Barons’ students and competitors compared notes, rides and sound systems. Judges from across the community provided a fair and balanced perspective for award winners.

“We have Just Kruzin’, Paradise Garage also helps,” Oldershaw said. “They’re kind of a team that’s helped us forever.”

“Sound (judging) is done by Sound Obsessions as well,” she added. “They’ve been volunteering with us for 10 years.”

The show wrapped up by the start of afternoon classes and students left with more than just good memories.

“I think just a love of vehicles,” said Oldershaw.
