Saskatchewan RCMP is advising residents of an increased police presence this week along rivers in the Battlefords area as part of an ongoing investigation into the 2018 disappearance of Ashley Morin.

Members of the RCMP’s underwater recovery team, historical case unit, Battlefords detachment and search and rescue will be searching sections of the river and surrounding riverbanks throughout the week.

Morin was 31 years old when she was last seen in North Battleford in mid-July 2018. Her last known contact with family was on July 10 of that year.

“Since Ashley disappeared nearly seven years ago, investigators have continuously followed up on numerous leads,” said Supt. Josh Graham, officer in charge of the Saskatchewan RCMP major crimes branch.

“Searching the river is another step in our investigation to find out what happened to Ashley and hold the person, or persons, who took Ashley away from her family accountable.”

Police say the historical case unit continues to actively investigate the case as a homicide with ongoing support from Battlefords RCMP.

Police urge anyone with information to come forward, no matter how minor the detail may seem. Tips can be provided by calling 310-RCMP (7267), contacting local police, or submitting anonymously through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.saskcrimestoppers.com.

“The Battlefords is a small, tight-knit community. We know people have information about Ashley’s disappearance and we want to encourage them to report it to police,” said Graham.

“Advancements in this investigation wouldn’t be possible without community members coming forward. What you know could help us provide closure to Ashley’s family and friends.”
