SIRT investigating RCMP shooting near Meadow Lake

Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating Meadow Lake RCMP officers after a male sustained serious injuries in a police-involved shooting at Flying Dust First Nation.

Officers responded to a report of an aggressive man at a home on the First Nation around 5:30 p.m. on June 29. Police said two officers encountered a man armed with a weapon. One officer fired, injuring him.

Officers provided first aid and paramedics later took the man to hospital for what police describes as serious injuries.

The man’s family has been notified and no update on his condition is available.

There are no reported injuries to RCMP officers involved in the incident.

SIRT is investigating the shooting, as required by The Police Act, 1990. RCMP forensic identification services is assisting, while the its general investigation section is reviewing the original call.

Any questions are to be directed to SIRT. Further details will be released as the investigation continues.
