“All newly-elected officials are required to complete orientation training within 90 days of taking office,” said Shannon Harrower, Town of Vermilion CAO. “To meet this requirement, administration has prepared a series of orientation sessions, which have been circulated to all the current candidates as well as a Vermilion-specific in-house orientation on Nov. 4, from noon to 2 p.m.”
Topics covered at the in-house orientation will include department overviews, governance roles and organizational structure, IT software training, payroll and timesheet training and key municipal plans, policies and projects.
Following the meeting, a committee of the whole will be held to prepare council for the upcoming budget deliberations.
“Administratively, we are recommending that we add a committee of the whole meeting to follow the orientation session on Nov. 4, which will primarily focus on Budget 101,” said Harrower.
While the in-house meeting would not be open to the public, the committee of the whole meeting would be.
Coun. Robert Pulyk commended administration on their efforts to get the new council off on the right foot.
“It’s great to see that administration has set this up. It’s really valuable to go through the entire process for all of new council,” he said. “It’ll be worthwhile getting off the right mark for everybody.”
Council passed a motion at the Sept. 30 council meeting to schedule a committee of the whole meeting on Nov. 4 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in council chambers.
