Coming home for the holidays means more than just family and friends for Lloydminster native Scott Patey — it’s a chance to give back to the community that helped shape him.

This Christmas season, Patey is bringing his interactive comedy show, Rock, Paper, Party, back to the Border City — and he’s still accepting bookings.
“I can go rowdy, or I can ease up — I’m adaptable,” said Patey, who now calls Vancouver home. “Every business I’ve worked with has had great feedback, and I’ve had some repeat clients.”
The show, a blend of stand-up comedy, improv and game-show antics, centres around a high-energy rock-paper-scissors tournament.
“I’ve been doing this show in Vancouver for the past 10 years,” said Patey. “I come in as the ref — I’ve got a fitted referee jersey I’ve had for years — and it’s basically UFC meets Family Feud. Coworkers and colleagues go head-to-head until we crown a winner.”
Designed for team building and holiday fun, Rock, Paper, Party has been a hit with local companies such as Foremost, the Cenovus Energy Hub, Weir Veterinary Clinic and Granite Oilfield.
“The whole thing runs two hours, but I can also cater to smaller businesses and make it more affordable,” Patey added. “I can cater to anyone.”
While Vancouver has been home since 2005, Patey says coming back to Lloydminster is deeply meaningful.
“I don’t have immediate family there anymore, but a lot of my best friends still live in Lloyd,” he said. “It’s important to come home for a couple of reasons. I’ve been working with Simon Stang and the Lloydminster Comprehensive High School drama department for a number of years, offering drama and improv workshops.”
Patey says inspiring local youth is one of the most rewarding parts of returning home.
“Growing up in Lloydminster, the entertainment industry felt pretty far away,” he said. “I knew deep down this is what I wanted to do, but at 16, I didn’t know what that meant. I left at 18, moved to Vancouver, and have been doing this for 20 years now — film, TV, voiceover and live performance.”
Now, Patey hopes to show the next generation that pursuing a creative dream is possible.
“If I can inspire kids to do what they love, that’s amazing,” he said. “Some of the students I’ve worked with are now out here pursuing the arts, too. That’s incredibly fulfilling.”
While his career has taken him across Canada’s entertainment scene, Lloydminster continues to hold a special place in his heart.
“You never forget where you came from,” he said. “Lloydminster will always be home.”
As for Rock, Paper, Party, Patey says it’s all about connection and joy.
“It’s the ultimate joy,” he said. “Aside from a little money in the pocket, I get joy out of seeing people connecting and building relationships. That’s what it’s all about.”
While in the Border City, Patey will be hosting trivia nights at Original Joe’s on Wednesday, Dec. 3 and Wednesday, Dec. 10. Trivia nights are open to the public and all are welcome.
On top of trivia nights and Rock, Paper, Party, Patey invites any who’s interested to check out The Comedy Department’s Canadian Steam comedy show at Cheers Live on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

“Canadian Steam is a rowdy improv show, similar to Whose Line Is It Anyways? but it’s with sexy lumberjacks,” said Patey, noting he’s excited to bring it to the Border City.
“We’re doing that show in Calgary, Edmonton, Camrose, St. Albert, Sherwood Park and Airdrie, but I pushed to get Lloyd because it’s my hometown. It’s also our first stop on the tour.”
