The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) team announced Tuesday that assistant coach Chad Taylor won’t return to the Pontiacs next season.

Taylor resigned to accept a head-coaching position with the U15 prep team at Pilot Mound Hockey Academy in his native Manitoba, the Pontiacs reported in a news release.

During his Bonnyville tenure, Taylor had been part of a Chad-filled administration team that included general manager Chad Nelson, head coach Chad Mercier and assistant coach Chad Carder.

“It’s always tough to lose a valued member of the staff, but this is what it’s all about — helping not only players move on in their careers, but staff members as well,” said Neil Langridge, the Pontiacs’ vice-president of operations.

“He will get to lead (as a head coach) in the exciting U15 prep division of the CSSHL.”

For the past two seasons, Taylor was also the head coach of the U13 AAA Bonnyville Yaks.

“Chad was a valued member of the Pontiacs organization and the inaugural head coach of the Bonnyville Yaks U13 AAA franchise,” Langridge said. “He was there from Day One of our exciting new partnership that Bonnyville minor hockey and the junior A Pontiacs formed in the summer of 2024.”

The Pontiacs failed to qualify for the AJHL playoffs the past two years. They staged their spring camp last weekend.
