A 23-year-old man who was wanted on firearms charges and for being unlawfully at large is in custody following a traffic stop on Onion Lake Cree Nation over the weekend.

Onion Lake RCMP officers were conducting proactive patrols on Sept. 20 when they pulled over a vehicle with a burnt-out headlight. Police identified a passenger in the vehicle as 23-year-old Ryden Dillon-Giroux of Onion Lake and arrested him on outstanding warrants.
According to police, the charges stem from an incident on Sept. 11, when officers received a report that a man had pointed a firearm and uttered threats at a victim at a residence on Onion Lake Cree Nation. The suspect also broke a window at the home. No physical injuries were reported.
Police say Dillon-Giroux had been released from a correctional facility on Sept. 10 under statutory release conditions. Correctional Service Canada issued a warrant for his apprehension the following day.
Dillon-Giroux faces charges including break and enter to commit an indictable offence, uttering threats, pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief under $5,000.
He made his first appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Sept. 21.
