That was the message from Mayor Gerald Aalbers as the City of Lloydminster kicked off Small Business Week, which runs from Oct. 19 to 25.

In a recent Message with the Mayor, Aalbers highlighted the dedication of the city’s entrepreneurs, noting that behind every storefront, home-based venture and professional service is an investment of time, resources and personal risk.

“Owning and operating a business takes determination and a willingness to take risks,” Aalbers stated. “Business owners wear many hats, often managing everything from finances and staffing to customer service and daily operations.”

The city emphasized that small businesses extend far beyond traditional downtown shops and restaurants. The local business community also includes tradespeople, home-based entrepreneurs and professional service providers who serve residents across Lloydminster and neighboring communities.

As the border city continues to grow, municipal leaders are encouraging residents to support the local economy through simple actions, such as shopping locally and recommending favourite businesses to friends and family.

“Every purchase and recommendation helps support the people who have chosen to invest in our community,” Aalbers said, encouraging residents to explore both familiar favourites and new establishments during Small Business Week.
