Mounties said the incident occurred in the Village of Marwayne when a man arrived at a local home claiming to be an employee with ATCO Electric.

According to police, the man ordered the homeowner to remove a lock from electrical equipment in the yard, threatening to shut off the property’s power. When the homeowner asked for a business card or identification, the man refused.

The homeowner grew suspicious when the man continually repositioned himself to block the homeowner from seeing the back of his vehicle. The suspect drove away after the resident refused to comply with his demands.

The homeowner contacted ATCO directly and confirmed the company had no employees assigned to the area.

Investigator describe the suspect as a six-foot-tall man with a medium complexion, weighing between 190 and 200 pounds. He has curly black hair, a beard and was wearing jeans, a button-up shirt and a blue vest with yellow reflective stripes.

He was driving a newer-model, white, two-door Dodge pickup truck, possibly manufactured between 2020 and 2024.

RCMP are reminding the public to remain vigilant and always demand identification from unexpected visitors, or call the employer directly to verify their identity before complying with any requests or letting them onto the property.

Anyone with information about this incident or similar encounters is asked to contact the Kitscoty RCMP immediately at 780-846-2870.
