The Ministry of Environment announced Wednesday that the licence exemption will run from July 11 to 12 on any public waterbody open to sport fishing across the province.
“Free Fishing Weekend is a great opportunity for Saskatchewan residents to get out on the water, spend time with family and friends, and experience the province’s world-class fishing opportunities,” Environment Minister Darlene Rowden said in a news release.
While angling licences are not required for the two-day event, provincial fishing regulations, including daily catch limits and size restrictions, remain strictly in effect.
The ministry noted that catch limits apply to all fish caught, which includes any fish consumed, gifted, stored, or transported during the weekend.
Anglers planning to fish should also note the following exceptions:
- The licence exemption does not apply inside national parks.
- A valid angling licence is still required to transport any fish out of Saskatchewan.
Rowden encouraged everyone hitting the water to review the province’s regulations to help keep Saskatchewan’s waters healthy and sustainable.
Anglers can check the 2026-27 Anglers Guide for general limits and special waterbody regulations online at saskatchewan.ca/fishing or at local licence vendors.
