ASIRT investigating RCMP officer-involved shooting in Cold Lake

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after an RCMP officer shot and injured an armed suspect during a domestic call in Cold Lake on Tuesday morning.

Cold Lake RCMP responded to a report of a domestic situation involving a weapon in the 5600 block of 54 St. at about 9:47 a.m.

According to police, responding officers encountered a suspect armed with a weapon. An officer discharged their service weapon, striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment and remains in stable condition. No officers were injured during the encounter.

Following legislative requirements, the Police Review Commission CEO was notified and deployed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.

RCMP stated they are fully co-operating with ASIRT while also conducting an internal review of police response, policy, training, and duty status.
