Titled Social Media in a Digital Age, the free weekly sessions run from Oct. 8 to Nov. 5, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Legacy Centre, located at 5101 46 Street.
Organizers say the program is open to parents, grandparents, educators, caregivers, and service providers looking for practical tools to support youth navigating social media and internet culture.
“Each week will focus on a different aspect of social media and digital life,” the city said in a release Wednesday, noting the curriculum will address how online habits influence health, connection, brain function, and overall behaviour.
The weekly schedule includes:
- Oct. 8 (Social Media and the Effect on Health and Wellness): Ariel Haubrich examines how technology affects mental health, relationships, and behavior.
- Oct. 15 (The Connected Brain): The MHCB LPSD Team details how stress, emotions, and digital platforms impact brain function and learning.
- Oct. 22 (Online Safety): Const. Sims shares strategies for maintaining digital boundaries and protecting children online.
- Oct. 29 (Swipe, Scroll and Repeat): Rhonda Braun addresses the behavioral impact of social media and offers tools to build healthier habits.
- Nov. 5 (Helping Kids Thrive in a Connected World): Lana Lane concludes the series with tips for fostering positive online experiences and digital citizenship.
