The Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD) announced it will move forward with renovations at Avery Outreach School. This comes after receiving funding in the 2025-26 Saskatchewan provincial budget.

The Government of Saskatchewan allocated $15 million for minor capital renewal projects across the province. Additionally, the Government of Alberta will also contribute to the Avery Outreach School renovation.

The project includes tearing down part of the former Barr Colony School building. The remaining space will be renovated to improve learning areas for Avery students.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Government of Saskatchewan and Alberta for supporting this important project,” said LPSD board chair Chrissy Gee.

“The improvements at Avery Outreach School will enhance the learning environment for students and staff. This funding ensures the school remains a safe, welcoming, and vibrant place for years to come.”

LPSD director of education, Jason Neville, said the upgrades will make a significant difference for students.

“This renovation aligns with our commitment to providing inclusive and supportive spaces for all learners,” said Neville. “It will allow us to serve our Avery students better and strengthen the functionality and adaptability of the school for years to come. We’re excited to see this vision begin to take shape.”

Avery Outreach School principal, Rob Merilees, says students and staff are eager for the improvements.

“Our staff and students are really looking forward to this next phase of modernization,” said Merilees. “Retrofitting the building to better meet the needs of our learners and creating updated, flexible spaces will make a big difference. Our move into the building in November was a positive step. These upcoming renovations will help make Avery School feel like home.”

LPSD will work with the Ministry of Education and partners to plan and begin the next steps of the project.
