According to the latest Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey, released on
Nov. 7, Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate fell to 5.5 per cent, well below the national average of 6.9 per cent. The province’s 2.3 per cent job growth was the second highest among Canadian provinces.

“Saskatchewan continues to have one of the lowest unemployment rates in Canada as our economy creates more jobs and opportunities,” said Jim Reiter, deputy premier and minister of immigration and career training.

“Our government is here to support a strong labour force to fill the jobs being created, so Saskatchewan continues to be the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

The province set new October records with 621,800 people employed, a labour force of 651,200, and 514,500 full-time workers. Full-time employment rose by 12,600 jobs compared to last year, an increase of 2.5 per cent.

Saskatchewan’s two largest cities also saw gains. Regina’s employment rose by 9,200 jobs, or 6.4 per cent, while Saskatoon added 1,900 jobs, an increase of 0.9 per cent year-over-year.

Employment growth was led by health care and social assistance, up 7,300 jobs (7.6 per cent), and construction, which added 4,400 jobs (9.6 per cent).

Saskatchewan’s broader economy also continues to expand. The province’s real GDP grew by 3.1 per cent in 2024, reaching $83.6 billion, the second-highest growth rate among provinces. Saskatchewan also led the country in month-over-month building construction investment growth in August 2025.

The provincial government credits its workforce and investment strategies — Building the Workforce for a Growing Economy and Securing the Next Decade of Growth — for helping sustain Saskatchewan’s economic momentum.
