Donald Joseph Ackerman
1939 To 2023
Don lived a healthy, helpful, and happy life until the morning of Thursday, January 12th when he suffered a severe stroke. He passed away in his sleep on Monday, January 23rd.
Don was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan, the oldest of seven children. He worked mainly in Lloydminster before retiring from TELUS Corporation in 1991. Soon after retiring, Don moved to Edmonton. He was in his early fifties then, and he remained very active by volunteering extensively, always seeking ways to be helpful to others. At the time of his passing, he was an integral and beloved member of the team responsible for the smooth operations of Tegler Terrace, where he was also a resident. His absence impacts many who knew him as an energetic co-worker and a friend.
His sisters, Bernadette and Margaret, along with his brothers, Dan, Lance, and Bob will miss his helpful, patient and generous nature. Other extended family members, co-workers and friends will also feel the loss of this one of a kind gentleman.
Don was predeceased by his dear sister, Irene, and by his parents Ben and Pauline.
For those wishing to honor Don’s memory, the family suggests that you always act with patience and kindness and look for ways to be helpful to others. Share genuine conversations and plenty of laughter. Remember Don as having been a good man to know.
In Don’s memory, please donate to The Tegler Foundation in Edmonton or to a charity of your choice.
