An out of this world light show could be possible tonight and even tomorrow evening if space weather predictions are correct.
A coronal mass ejection was determined to have an earth facing element earlier this week and is now providing conditions favourable to seeing the northern lights.
Pictures from across Alberta were posted from the first night of the storm in multiple Facebook groups. The storm is projected to be its strongest tonight according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Centre. It is projecting our area has a great possibility of seeing them this evening as they currently projected as far south as Idaho in the U.S. mid-west.
Two big things you need in order to observe the lights is away from major light pollution and good weather. On that note the local weather tonight is calling for mainly clear skies during the best time to see the lights (10 p.m. to 2 a.m.).
