Downtown Lloydminster visitors experienced its final block party of the season Sept. 7.
The block parties run throughout the summer on 50 Ave. between 50 St. and 49 St. and the Sept.7 event marked the end of the block party season for 2024.
The block party featured live music and vendors. Dawn Hames, organizer of the Lloydminster Block Party
dawn Hames, organizer of the downtown Lloydminster block parties says the event helps bring the downtown together.
"Events like this that combine downtown businesses with community is a really great example of downtown businesses working together to benefit themselves and to benefit the community," she said.
"It's an opportunity for people that like the arts, such as music, painting, crafting, gardening, to become vendors to create this downtown market that's truly organic and community based."
Hames says the block parties are something she's been working on for several years.
The Downtown Area Development Committee (DARC) provides sponsorship for the block party.
"The block party is a revitalization type event, we get sponsorship from DARC, with that sponsorship money we pay the musicians
Hames says the block party benefits businesses downtown.
"We have a lot of potential to create a hub for community connection, it also benefits downtown businesses," she said, further explaining, "any business can participate"
Hames also says the benefit to the downtown is also through the safety these kinds of events bring.
"The other thing is, when we're outside and we're doing events and when we increase foot traffic our downtown becomes safer," she said.
