The Lloydminster Bobcats are clawing up the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) standings after a slow start to the season.
The 'Cats (9-9-1) currently sit third in the AJHL North after an 8-3 home-ice win over the Devon Extreme (3-14-1) on Nov. 6.
Assistant captain Kade Fendelet opened the scoring 43 seconds into the first period. Teague McAllister followed at 3:50 in the first before Fendelet got his second of the night at 12:42. Luke Fritz made it a 4-0 game before Malcolm Baar got the Extreme on the board.
McAllister got his second of the night at 9:34 in the second frame before Kaiden Wiltsie made it a 6-1 game for the Bobcats. A late second-period goal by Devon's Lucas Knorr made it a 6-2 game.
The third period saw goals from Lloyd's Murray Kanerva and Brett Buckley (his first as a Bobcat) and a second from Devon's Knorr for an 8-3 final.
The boys in black and orange started the season with a six-game losing streak. However, recent play suggests the team is finding its way. With 20 points this season, the Bobcats still have an eight-point gap to catch the top-seeded Grande Prairie Storm.
The Bobcats host the Storm at the Civic Centre tomorrow night (Nov. 8).
