The Bishop Lloyd Middle School band brought holiday cheer to Lloydminster’s Vic Juba Community Theatre.
Students from Grades 6, 7 and 8 showcased their talents in a professional performance venue.
Katelyn Jardine, the band teacher, emphasized the importance of the experience for her students.
“Middle school band students don’t usually get to perform in an actual venue,” said Jardine. “They often play in school gyms, so this is a big deal for their musicianship.”
For many students, it was their first time on a professional stage.
“They’re incredibly excited,” Jardine shared. “They get to use microphones, see real spotlights, and feel the energy of performing in a real theatre.”
Grade 6 student Saylor expressed her enthusiasm about the opportunity.
“I’ve never played in a band before, so this is very new for me,” she said. “Thank you so much to the theatre for opening its doors. Not many Grade 6 students get this chance.”
The evening featured a mix of music, including Christmas songs performed by the middle school band. Additionally, the Grade 6 band, having just learned their first notes, delighted the audience with folk tunes and a chorus of We Will Rock You.
The event highlighted the value of arts in schools and the importance of community venues like the Vic Juba.
