The Resort Village of Aquadeo is holding a public meeting to discuss a possible purchase of key community properties. Mayor Peter Delainey currently owns the properties.
The properties in question include the golf course, marina, swimming pool, and three trailer courts. Mayor Delainey has put ABR up for sale, raising concerns among residents about the future of these community amenities.
The notice from the resort town to residents reads in part.
"We want to maintain the Golf Course and marina, a swimming pool for our children and families to enjoy, and recreation within our community well into the future for our residents to enjoy."
It continues:
"We are not guaranteed this future if the property is sold to any other entity. We cannot assume that they would not continue, but the only way we can guarantee that we will have some consistency is if we are able to attain the property under the Village profile."
Council members, excluding the Mayor, have explored the idea of buying the properties to ensure the village can maintain its culture and recreation opportunities. Councillors seek public input on the completed business plan before moving forward.
If the village proceeds with the purchase, the business plan outlines several steps. These include addressing encroachments, subdividing trailer lots so leaseholders can buy their properties, and connecting the east and west sides of the community.
The village would need to secure a loan to fund the purchase. Individual buyers would later cover subdivision costs Lenders require an environmental study, which would also need to be completed.
The Mayor has stayed out of the discussions due to a conflict of interest. Councillors emphasized the importance of transparency and asking residents to share their thoughts.
The Resort Village of Aquadeo will host a public meeting on Jan. 18, at 10:00 AM in the Community Hall.
