Vermilion gets RCMP roof funding

The Town of Vermilion is getting some funding to help cover the cost of a new roof at the RCMP building.

The process has been ongoing for Vermilion administration in trying to secure funding from RCMP K-Division.

“We think we have buy-in from RCMP to cover a portion of the building, we’ve invoiced them, we still have yet to receive the funds. We want to get approval on this so we can complete our year in financial entries,” said Brian Leibel, director of corporate services.

Deputy Mayor Joshua Rayment says it’s nice to see some money come in to relieve pressure on the budget.

“Thank you to administration for your hard work on this. I know you had to reach out multiple times and kind of badger them to get them to agree to pay for anything on the building they’re using,” said Rayment.

“Which is technically our building. We weren’t technically entitled to anything but they were good enough with your pestering to come forward and give us $33,000, which will relieve a little pressure off the budget.”

Council passed an amendment to the 2024 capital budget to add a third-party contribution from RCMP K-Division of $33,000 to the RCMP Building budget of $70,000 and reduce funding from reserves by $33,000.
