A public hearing was held during the regular council meeting on April 22, which drew a large public outcry opposing the proposed changes.

Planning and community services put together a complete revision of the current Land Use Bylaw.

Both the plan and bylaw received extensive changes, which raised public concern. Speakers during the April 22 public hearing raised concerns over the reach of the advertising for the proposed changes.

People also felt the bylaw was more restrictive in its current draft form.

There were also concerns raised over the clarity of the bylaw, pointing to the need for plainer language. Items that drew public concern included moving from permitted use to discretionary, as people had issue with more government oversight in these cases.

Permits were also discussed with one resident, saying they’ve “gotten out of control.”

Just under a week after the public hearing, the CVR made the decision to schedule a public information session on June 11 at the Kitscoty Community Hall.

The LUB and Municipal Development plan won’t appear again until after the next public information session.

“This will not be appearing on our agendas until we have our June 11 open house with the public attending so we can hear back on your questions and concerns,” said Reeve Marty Baker at the May 6 council meeting.

He says council wants to hear from the public regarding the proposed changes.

“In between then, I urge you to talk to your councillors. You can always talk to our people in planning as well,” said Baker, noting they’re interested in hearing from the public.

“If you have direct questions of certain parts of this bylaw that you have an issue with or you’d like to see an amendment done to it, we’d be really interested in hearing from you,” he said.

Jane Dauphinee from Municipal Planning Services Ltd. will also be in attendance to answer any questions.
