Officers responded quickly, cordoned off the area and called in the Alberta RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU).

EDU members arrived, identified the object and safely dismantled it. They confirmed it was a pipe bomb.

Investigators have not determined where the device came from.

Police say it’s unknown whether this is an isolated case.

RCMP urged residents to stay alert, report anything suspicious and warned people not to approach strange or unfamiliar objects.

Alberta RCMP EDU remains on scene while working with Lloydminster RCMP, Police Dog Services, and the General Investigation Section.

“We understand these situations can be stressful for members of the community and Albertans in general,” said Cpl. Christopher Byford, acting operations support NCO for the Lloydminster RCMP. “We are hard at work investigating the issue and getting the answers the public needs in order to ensure their safety.”

The investigation continues. Police will release more information as it becomes available.
