The Reading is my Jam fundraiser kicked off Monday, Oct. 6, and will support the library’s imagination and innovation fund through the sale of limited-edition mixed berry jam.

Reading Is My Jam is available at Lower Shannon Farms (K-774, Britannia No. 502) and the Lloydminster Public Library. The jam retails for $12 per jar and $6 from each jar sold supports the library.

“When the opportunity arose to join forces with a locally-owned business and fundraise for all the good things we do here at LPL, we immediately said yes,” said library director Cheryl Sikora, noting the library’s been serving the community for more than 90 years.

“Last year, over 100,000 patrons accessed library programs and services and the vast majority of our offerings are free. Fundraising partnerships like this are an important focus. We are thrilled to work with the team at Lower Shannon Farms.”

Retail operations manager of Acton’s Lower Shannon Farms, Kelsey Acton, explained they couldn’t be happier with the partnership.

“Community is one of the foundations Acton’s Lower Shannon Farms was built on. Providing locally-produced food, connection, unique and fun experiences while supporting our community has always been at the centre of our business,” said Acton, a fifth-generation family-business partner.

“We’ve successfully done this type of fundraising in the past with programs like Bike for Breakfast, where we offered ‘traffic jam’ in support of school breakfast programs in the region. We hope this may be the start of a unique way we can help to support wide-reaching community programs and organizations that speak to our values of food security, education and inclusion.”
