Bonnyville RCMP responded to a report shortly before 9 a.m. of a man with a long firearm on his lap inside a vehicle parked near 46 Ave. and 39 St.

Police immediately issued a shelter-in-place order for the surrounding community and a nearby school while officers established containment of the area.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident. RCMP officials stated that no injuries were reported and the shelter-in-place order was lifted once the suspect was in hand.

Chad Jonathon Blackman has been charged with:

  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Failing to comply with release orders
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking controlled drugs and substances

The operation involved a significant coordinated response, including the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, and Air Services, along with assistance from the Elk Point and Cold Lake detachments. Emergency Medical Services were also on standby during the event.

Anyone with information regarding criminal activity in the area is asked to contact the Bonnyville RCMP at 780-826-3358 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
