RCMP say their preliminary investigation indicates the incident occurred in the early hours of April 29 and involved two individuals known to each other. Police allege a male suspect, armed with a weapon, assaulted the victim and stole his vehicle.

Officers located the stolen vehicle later that day at 5 p.m. near 36 St. and 52 Ave. in Lloydminster. Police conducted a coordinated traffic stop and arrested the adult male driver without incident.

RCMP said the operation involved support from the Alberta RCMP’s Real Time Operations Centre, the Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section and police dog services.

Christopher Luipersbeck, 38, has been charged with robbery and use of a forged document.

He appeared before a justice and was remanded in custody. Luipersbeck is scheduled to appear in Saskatchewan provincial court in Lloydminster on May 4.

RCMP said the investigation remains ongoing.

Police added the arrest occurred during peak traffic hours and thanked the public for its cooperation while officers worked to ensure public safety.
