It’s funny how often we find ourselves thinking about what the future holds. The amazing advancements technology has been making seem to eclipse anything we can do.

While I think AI has a good place in society helping with medicine and other fields, I think there are situations where it’s less than useful to us.

That’s where today’s story comes in. It’s not a historical piece, but something I’ve been thinking about for awhile.

I have a friend just a year younger than me who wants to get back into dating. Well, it’s 2026 and that means you’re likely taking to the various dating apps. Tinder, Bumble, whatever else is out there, he was signed up for and on. Well, it was apparent to him early that he didn’t really know how to make small talk or hold a conversation.

So, what did he do? What every good modern individual does, he busted open his nearest chatbot and let it do the conversating for him. I think making conversation with a potential significant other should be organic and honest, but to each their own. The art of small talk is also one that I think everyone should take a class in.

For my buddy, this was successful. He was having great conversations and enjoying his time. Fantastic, seems like a job well done for modern technology. There was, however, a large wrench thrown into the situation. Eventually, you move these conversations off the platforms and either talk on the phone or meet. Well, in a few instances, he realized the people he was chatting with had a limited grasp on the English language or didn’t speak it at all.

It didn’t take me long to connect the dots and it didn’t take him long either. He was talking to people who were also using AI to hold their conversations.

Two AI chatbots were in place of humans having a conversation together. This may very well be the first instance of robots dating and I’m happy to have witnessed it.
