The annual event offers an opportunity for people to explore the province’s diverse trail systems and natural landscapes ahead of the peak summer season.
“We are fortunate to be home to such beautiful and diverse provincial parks,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross said in a media release. “Spending time in nature and being active is something important we can do for ourselves and our overall health and well-being.”
More than a dozen provincial parks across Saskatchewan are scheduled to host special programming, guided hikes, and outdoor activities to mark the day.
Special events planned for June 6 include:
- Buffalo Pound Provincial Park: A guided hike to the historic Nicolle Homestead.
- Douglas Provincial Park: A “Blooming Cacti Hike” alongside a mindfulness walk.
- Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park: An educational program titled “Life in the Lodgepoles.”
- Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park: Trail events hosted in partnership with the Prairie Sky Running Company.
- Wascana Trails Natural Recreation Site: Specialized hiking and biking events.
Other participating locations offering guided trail activities include Candle Lake, Duck Mountain, Echo Valley, Great Blue Heron, Greenwater Lake, Meadow Lake, Moose Mountain, and Pike Lake provincial parks.
While park entry fees are waived for the day, visitors looking for specific event times or location details are encouraged to visit the official Sask Parks website.
