“With the scholarship, we’d like to thank you for the continued support,” said Rob Merilees, Avery School principal. “It is going to be different tickets and Roxanne (Stanford) did first aid and food safety.”

He also updated Rotary on their recent move.

“We moved to Barr Colony School about a year ago, a change from the old building,” he said. “They’re starting to tear down the back half now, so we just have the front half of the building.”

Their new location offers more space to work with.

“Since moving there, we have a gym, little more space, but a lot more students,” said Merilees. “We’ve got up to 400 students taking courses.”

For teacher Brenda Born, she’s seen first-hand the impact a school like Avery School can have on students.

“I’ve seen lots of students that a traditional school just doesn’t work for,” she said. “Coming over to Avery this year, seeing those students thrive and be successful, happy, making relationships, has been such a wonderful thing to say.

“Avery supports so many kids in so many ways.”

She also thanked Rotary for their continued support.

“We have kids that just can’t afford to do things and families that aren’t there to help support them either,” said Born.
