Applications are now open for a new, one-time $100 Alberta Energy Rebate aimed at providing immediate financial relief to millions of eligible residents, the provincial government announced on July 1.

The program, which runs from July 1 until Sept. 30, allows eligible Albertans to apply online through a secure portal. The direct payment is designed to help households offset the rising costs of fuel, groceries, utilities, and other everyday necessities.

“The Alberta Energy Rebate goes beyond fuel costs,” Jason Nixon, President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance, said in a statement. “By delivering payments directly, we are guaranteeing relief reaches more Albertans now, not later.”

According to provincial officials, the $100 payment provides the average Albertan with 50 per cent more savings than a three-month pause on fuel taxes would offer. Approximately 3.4 million Albertans are expected to qualify for the funding.

To be eligible for the rebate, applicants must be at least 18 years old, be an Alberta resident with a verified Alberta.ca account, have filed a 2025 tax return, and have a household income of $225,000 or less.

For the purposes of the program, a household is defined as a single individual or two legally married or common-law partners. Adults living together who do not meet these criteria—such as roommates, adult children, or other relatives—are considered separate households and must apply individually.

Residents currently receiving provincial benefits, including the Alberta Seniors Benefit, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP), and Income Support, will be enrolled automatically.

All other eligible residents must submit their applications online through the official Alberta Energy Rebate portal. Applicants are reminded to ensure the mailing address on their provincial driver’s licence or identification card matches their verified Alberta.ca account before registering.

Approved applicants can expect to receive their non-taxable payment via Interac e-transfer within 14 days of filing. Officials noted that the rebate will not impact eligibility for any other provincial or federal benefit programs.
