The City of Lloydminster asks for the patience and co-operation of local drivers and pedestrians after more than a foot of snow fell on the border city this past weekend.
Following the weekend storm, all available City of Lloydminster personnel and resources are on city streets working to clear arterial and collector roadways as safely and quickly as possible.
“As residents of Lloydminster know, winter on the Prairies waits for no one and we can only ask for your patience as workers respond to this latest dump of snow. Plowing is a difficult and time-consuming process, and our teams are working around the clock to ensure that the city’s main roadways are passable,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “Please drive carefully, and remember to maintain a safe, eight-metre distance from large equipment as we clear municipal roadways.”
Businesses and travellers may witness delays in snow removal efforts in the city’s downtown business district as efforts focus on Highway 16 and Highway 17 and collector roadways. Typically, the downtown business district snow removal begins once 10 centimetres of snow accumulates.
To help lessen travel interruptions throughout the community, the City is in discussions with local contractors to assist with snow-clearing efforts. Contractor and equipment availability is dependent on client agreements already in place.
Snow Clearing
- Priority 1 roads are completed day or night and will be completed within two days after a major snowfall (>5cm).
- Priority 2 roads are completed as soon as possible after the completion of Priority 1.
- Priority 1 sidewalks and trails are completed within 72 hours of snowfall. Priority 2 sidewalks and trails are completed as soon as possible after Priority 1 is complete.

Residential Snow Removal
As municipal and contracted resources remain available, the City of Lloydminster will continue its residential snow removal in the blue curbside collection zone. Previously completed areas include the green, orange, pink and yellow zones. The residential snow removal was initiated on Nov. 21. Sidewalk and fire hydrant snow removal
Property owners and tenants are reminded to remove all snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their property. The property owner or tenant’s responsibility is to keep one metre (three feet) surrounding the fire hydrant free from snow and ice. Creating a pathway to the nearest sidewalk or roadway is strongly recommended. As per the Community Standards Bylaw, residents are reminded to refrain from depositing snow and ice onto the streets when clearing snow from a property. The bylaw also outlines that the owner or occupant of property along municipal streets is responsible for removing snow and ice from the sidewalk within 72 hours of a snowfall.
Report a winter maintenance concern
Problem areas may be reported using the Winter Maintenance Concern form. This form allows residents to report roadway concerns and feedback to the City of Lloydminster. The reported location must be within city limits.
