Lloydminster is getting ready to play host to the 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games as the competition is just two days away.
The Games will feature competition in 14 different sports including Special Olympics – bocce and beach volleyball.
The host organizing committee, led by co-chairs Wendy Plandowski and Aaron Rawlake, supported by nearly 100 dedicated volunteers, is ready to welcome the entire province to the Border City.
From July 21-27, over 2,000 athletes, coaches, managers, mission staff and officials, alongside 800 local volunteers and upwards of 5,000 visitors, will gather to experience the multi-sport event.
Nine District teams will be arriving at the athlete’s village on Sunday. Lloydminster Comprehensive High School has been transformed into an Olympic-style village for the week of the Games
The ATCO torch relay will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, leaving from Lloydminster City Hall, venturing around the city before reaching its final destination the Centennial Civic Centre. The flame will be lit, and the games will officially start with the games starting at 7 p.m. following the opening ceremonies.
