In 1956, American Painter Jackson Pollock died in an automobile accident. He was a leading exponent of abstract expressionism and received great fame and serious recognition for his radical poured, or drip technique.
In 1984 at the Los Angelos Olympics Carl Lewis became the third track-and-field athlete to win four gold medals in one Olympics. Lewis joined Alvin Kraenzlein who did it in 1990 and Jesse Owens who achieved the feat in 1936.
