Three local oil and gas companies are receiving funds for projects in Saskatchewan that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Government of Saskatchewan is providing more than $25 million through the Saskatchewan Technology Fund to support 13 industry-driven projects.
Strathcona Resources will receive $12.5 million toward the cost of developing a carbon capture system, pipeline infrastructure, and sequestration site for its Meota East thermal facility northwest of North Battleford.
Baytex Energy will use its $1.11M to reduce methane venting from pneumatic instrumentation at Baytex facilities by installing electric-powered air compressors and replacing older pneumatic devices.
Secure Energy will apply its $30,250 funding to reduce fuel consumption and emissions at the midstream processing facility in Kindersley by installing a new burner and burner management system.
The 25 approved projects leverage more than $277 million in additional private sector and government investment.
They will ensure the sustainability of Saskatchewan industries and drive forward technologies that will lead to a cleaner, more prosperous future.
The projects are expected to result in the reduction of more than 4.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent through reducing methane emissions from venting and flaring, upgrading equipment to enhance energy efficiency, and deploying carbon capture and storage technologies.
