A North Battleford RCMP investigation led to multiple arrests in Moosomin First Nation.
On October 30, 2024, around 2:30 p.m., the Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford Crime Reduction Team – Gang Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Moosomin First Nation as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in the Battlefords area.
During the search, officers seized a range of items, including a replica firearm, two rifles, a loaded homemade firearm, and approximately 45 grams of pre-packaged methamphetamine. Additionally, small amounts of cocaine and suspected MDMA, various ammunition, bear spray, a conducted energy weapon, and drug trafficking paraphernalia were also seized.
Seven people—two women and five men—were arrested at the residence. Among them, 41-year-old Nicole Poitras of Moosomin First Nation faces multiple charges. They include-
- possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine),
- unauthorized possession of firearms,
- possession of prohibited weapons,
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- unsafe storage of firearms.
Additionally, 23-year-old Lyle Night from Saulteaux First Nation was arrested on an outstanding warrant from the Saskatoon Police Service. That charge is for possession of property obtained by crime. He has been released and is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on November 22, 2024.
Another individual, 41-year-old Malcolm Moccasin of Moosomin First Nation, was arrested on outstanding warrants from the Battlefords RCMP. It includes charges for possession for the purpose of trafficking, failure to comply with probation, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on October 31, 2024.
The remaining individuals were released without charges. Poitras first appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on November 1, 2024.
